I’m excited to share the release of our latest podcast episode, where we dive into the topic of understanding neurodiversity and ADHD with ADHD advocate, coach, and facilitator Callum McKirdy. It was such a great conversation!
During the interview, Callum shared a powerful statement that really resonated:
“It’s not about saying, oh, you know, poor neurodiverse people who have been forgotten about and kept down by a glass ceiling, which is often self-imposed as well. But there are some mechanisms that don’t work for us in workplaces. [It’s] not a ‘we need to find more people who are neurodiverse for our organisations’. It’s that we’ve already got them. How do we harness them a bit more?”
In line with this, there’s increasing awareness across businesses that neurodiversity offers a competitive advantage. Well-known companies like Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, and others have implemented neurodiversity programs to tap into this incredible group.
These programs include supportive ecosystems that provide assistance, mentorship, and accommodations tailored to the needs of neurodiverse employees. They have also created career management methods that prioritise ongoing development.
And it’s paid dividends. Neurodiverse employees have brought fresh perspectives, increased productivity, improved product quality, and driven innovation in their respective companies. Additionally, these programs have fostered a culture of understanding and appreciation for individual differences among all employees.
And what are the opportunities to strengthen your approach?
